NAFTA-The North American Free Trade Agreement
It’s not quite “free,” but with the required documentation and a $150 fee, citizens of the United States and Mexico whose professions are covered by NAFTA’s ‘skilled labour mobility’ provisions can get a temporary work permit for Canada.
In some cases, US citizens can obtain the permit the same day they apply. For Mexican citizens, who need to apply through a Canadian consular office, the processing time can be a bit longer.
The treaty covers some 63 professions, as well as intra-company transfers, business visitors, investors and traders. Its provisions for executives, managers and employees with specialized knowledge play a pivotal role in corporate human resource planning all across Canada.
Capelle Kane’s expertise in Canadian immigration law can help employers demonstrate how the skilled professionals they want to hire or have transferred to Canada qualify under NAFTA.
