New Fee for Open Work Permit Applicants

Starting February 21, 2015, there will be a new fee of $100 levied on open work permit applicants. This fee will be collected at the same time as, and in addition to, the work permit processing fee (currently $155).

Foreign workers who are eligible to apply for open work permits include: those on a working holiday under the International Experience Canada program; Post-Graduate Work Permit applicants; Spouses/Common-Law partners of higher-skilled foreign workers and International Students; In-Canada Spouses approved for a work permit under the One-Year Pilot Project who have received first stage approval of their application; and certain foreign nationals who are already in Canada awaiting processing of their applications for permanent residence.
